There are some legal requirements for your Wedding Ceremony:
• Both parties must be 18 years of age, or over, and; have never been validly married; or
are divorced (Decree Absolute required); or are widowed (Death Certificate required).
• Two witnesses who are 18 years of age or over must be present at the ceremony.
• Notice of Intended Marriage must be completed and lodged with you celebrant, (at least one month and one day prior to your wedding. The notice shall not be lodged more than 18 months prior to your wedding day).
To complete the Notice of Intended Marriage form I will need to sight a full birth certificate for each party. For people born outside Australia a passport showing your place of birth is acceptable.
If you intend to change your name after your marriage some organisations such as the Department of Transport require a certified copy of your marriage certificate from the Registry of Births, Deaths and Marriages. I can provide this form and lodge it for you, the certificate will be generated upon registration of your marriage.
Getting Married in a Public Area
If you plan on getting married in a park, on the beach or any other public area you will need to obtain a permit from your Local Council.
